Longden Company has completed a 21,000 square foot data center expansion for EdgeConneX in Billerica, MA. This 30” high Concore 1250 access floor system includes underfloor air distribution cooling as well as underfloor power & data. This new space allows for continued growth of the EdgeConneX ‘Edge Data Center’ capabilities including future tenant racks, cages and expanded cooling capacity. The high pressure laminate finish allows for increased durability and low static generation.
Longden Company recently completed a 5,000 square foot server lab infrastructure upgrade project for Casa Systems in Andover, MA. This project included demolition of existing wet sprinkler and mechanical systems to allow for installation of a pre-action sprinkler system tied into a special hazard fire detection system, along with the implementation of Liebert CRV precision in-row cooling units and Liebert PDX perimeter cooling units to supply cool air to server racks and modem racks, respectively. Longden also installed new electrical switchgear and power distribution, including Starline track busway, for point-of-use plug-in capabilities.
Longden Company has completed an installation of 3,500 square feet of raised access flooring in Tiered Classrooms and an Auditorium space at the new UMASS Dartmouth Charlton College of Business. These new tiered spaces allow each student immediate access to power and data connections through seamless integration with furniture, which has become essential in today’s highly connected classrooms. The Auditorium includes underfloor air distribution along with under floor power & data distribution. High efficiency LED lighting was incorporated into the risers at each tier alongside custom stainless handrails. Tate ConCore 1250 panels were finished with carpet tile for simple under floor access.
These two adjoining bays total 1,700 square feet of ISO Class 6 Cleanroom. Construction details include a 2” Plascore wall system, a Gordon gasketed cleanroom ceiling grid and Tate perforated raised access flooring for air return. Additionally there are two custom manual sliding doors, a custom high speed roll up door, and a custom ULPA filtered stainless steel pass-through.
Longden installed 45000 square feet of Tate Concore 1000 bare panel for the Service Credit Union headquarters in Portsmouth NH. This system utilized Underfloor Air Distribution for HVAC, which improves air quality and reduces energy costs. Longden designed bridging and supports to span over the HVAC ductwork. The photo of the unfinished floor illustrates the flooring installed just short of the window wall to accommodate registers to allow airflow to rise in front of the windows.
This project included 4,100 square feet of ISO 6 cleanroom. The space was 25′ tall, with ducted return air chases. Eight of these chases were 6′ wide x 8′ high. The walls were constructed of 1/4″ aluminum cleanroom panel system (Plascore) on metal stud framing. The ceiling is a Gordon system, gasketed aluminum, with Plascore 1/4″ aluminum blank ceiling tiles.
Longden designed and built this dedicated server room for a financial institution located in Burlington, MA. We managed all aspects of construction, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC and mechanical systems. Equipment installed includes redundant 20KW in-row Liebert CRV air-cooled AC systems, redundant 30KW Emerson EXM UPS systems with A/B whip distribution to critical load, a preaction sprinkler system with dedicated smoke detection and panel. All systems are protected by a 250KW natural gas Caterpillar generator. This also backs up the call center and disaster recovery functions for this corporate office.
This server room project includes a 20 kVA Liebert UPS system, overhead cable tray and redundant power distribution to each rack. HVAC design incorporates two Liebert CRV in-row cooling units for redundant cooling. A dedicated detection and fire alarm panel with preaction sprinkler system protects the server room. And, the entire facility is backed up by generator power.
Size Doesn’t Matter
Not every business requires a 5 megawatt server room. Regardless of its size, your server room is critical to your company’s operations. Small server rooms still require architectural layout, power calculations, UPS backup and distribution planning, HVAC, fire detection and protection, monitoring and reporting, as well as ongoing maintenance and service considerations. Longden Company has a long history of the design and construction of all sizes of server rooms, including those that are smaller, but no less important. Learn more about server rooms.

Longden Company recently installed over 180,000 square feet of raised access flooring system for footwear manufacturer New Balance at their new headquarters in Brighton, MA. In addition to providing the ultimate flexibility in office reconfiguration, the underfloor space will be utilized for HVAC, power, and telecom utility distribution. Bare ConCore 1000 and 1500 panels were installed in the office and utility areas respectively. The office areas were covered with carpet tile and the utility areas with VCT. Longden lowered the flooring system in the bathrooms to accommodate underlayment and ceramic tile.
